A Busy Start To The New Year!

We are off and running into the new year! Welcome to our new student, Ariam! Her family recently moved to Winnipeg from Sudan. A big change!

We are learning about the Arctic and children have started Arctic projects. They are researching an animal and learning about life in the Arctic. They will be excited to show you the finished product!

Dom is researching the wolverine.

Students have also learned about how to recognize their worries and then how to cope with them. Part of this was to make a worry stone. Ask your child about it!

Here are Violet, Alan and Frances with their very own worry stone.

In Math, students are working towards learning their basic facts. Having recall of addition and subtraction facts to 10 and of the doubles to 9+9 is the grade two goal for the end of the year. The grade three goal is to also have recall of addition and subtraction facts to 18. These are just 1-2 of the Mental Math goals for each grade. Please help to reinforce these at home. Knowing their basic facts makes working with larger numbers easier.

This post highlights a few of things that we are busy with. Ask your child about their persuasive writing piece. What are they trying to persuade their teacher to allow?

We hope to see you at our Tech Night next Tuesday night!
