Hello Everyone!
It's been full speed ahead since we returned from Spring Break! Plenty of learning every day - reading, writing, problem solving, experiments, research, participating in "Wear Pink to say No to Bullying Day," reading and talking about how to help our earth, preparing for an assembly - to name a few.
Ms. Provencher, our teacher candidate has been teaching our Geometry unit in Math. We have made booklets, done a scavenger hunt, compared 2-D shapes and 3-D objects and sorted them.
In Science, we've been learning about the importance of soil. What makes soil? What are the different layers in soil and different types of soils? Why do we need soil? Ms. Provencher has prepared and shown a number of different Power Point Presentations and lessons to teach us about soil. We've done experiments and worked through a booklet. We even ate "Dirt!" Ask me about that!
In Social Studies, we're learning about the country of Mexico. This will all lead up to our June Celebration of Learning! No siestas in our class!
We can't have April without celebrating this planet we call home. Reviewing the 3-R's is important and learning how even one young person can make a difference just by not being a litterbug. Speaking of that, students used leftover materials to create their own adorable "Litterbug." These will be on display in our hallway for a few days. Room 6 also performed a song at our Earth Day assembly on Thursday. It's called "One Planet." Their singing as a group sounds absolutely beautiful and they made us proud! You can watch a recording of the song, as part of this blog post.
Don't they sound wonderful! We hope you enjoy it!

Happy Spring!
Hello from Room 6! We are excited about the arrival of Spring for so many reasons! We hope to come back in April without snow pants, boots and other winter gear! With Easter and Spring Break right around the corner, excitement has been building!
We have welcomed Miss Provencher back into our classroom to complete her final practicum before she graduates. She will be with us for most of April, too. Lots of fun learning planned for after Spring Break!
The children prepared to share their second term portfolio work with their family. They take such pride in showing off their accomplishments - exactly as it should be.
Below are a few photos to update you on what's been happening in our room the past while. Enjoy!

The students have also been very busy working on their "Genius Projects." What a range of topics we have - tornadoes and hurricanes, toxic waste, robots, sharks, electricity, Ancient Egypt, rainbows, to name a few. These have been worked on mostly independently and are looking great! Photos to follow in April!

We're 100 Days Smarter!
Hi Everyone!
Monday, February 22nd was officially our 100th day of school! We talked about way back in September when it was our 1st day together and now here we are... 100 days smarter! Lots of learning has been accomplished and Room 6 students have worked like busy bees!
It was time to celebrate learning together for 100 days - so the afternoon was set up for students to travel around to 3 classrooms and participate in stations. Rooms 4 and 10 were also part of the afternoon. The children had booklets to help guide them around. By far, the favorite one was the Snack Station! Food is always a big hit!
Below are a few pictures to showcase some of the learning - sorry, couldn't get everyone because Mrs. Chumola was busy at the "Make a 100 Day" crown station.
We want to say a huge THANK - YOU to our families that donated snacks and craft supplies, especially on short notice. You helped to make the afternoon a success.

A reason to celebrate... 100 days of learning, fun and friendships!

Valentine Fun!
Hi Everyone! Wow, these days are slipping by way too quickly! Last week, children listened to stories related to Valentine's Day, worked on Valentine themed math, and wrote poems and letters about love and caring. They also had fun preparing for our Valentine celebration, then giving out their cards and enjoying delicious snacks that were contributed by parents. Thank you so much!
We hope that you enjoy some pictures taken before and during our celebration.

A fun time was had by all! Until next Valentine's Day...

Play Day Was a Blast!
Global Play Day was enjoyed by everyone! It was wonderful to observe the children interacting in play situations for the entire day! Students loved being able to bring games, toys, dolls and special Lego from home.
A few comments from students:
Violet: Play Day was a blast because people were sharing their toys.
Kael: In the morning we went to play with the Kinders. It was so much fun playing with all of their things!
Loralai: I liked it because everybody was sharing and no one was arguing. I learned how to play Charlotte's game.
Gabe: It was awesome and I hope that we have it next year! Alan's trashy ship was attacking my Power Clics house. It was fun!
Charlotte: My sister came and she played "Apples to Apples" with us.
Frances: It was GREAT!
Audrey: Play Day was fun because Charlotte was sharing her game.
Ben: Dominic and I played Creo mixed with Lego and it was fun!
We hope that you enjoy our video!

A Fresh Start!
Happy Belated New Year to everyone! Coming back in January is like a fresh start for all of us. We were excited to see each other and talk about our holiday. It was a great writing topic to start with, too.
This week in Math, students have been using the Number Line strategy to solve equations with regrouping. We were fortunate to have Mrs. Quinn -LaFleche work in our classroom before the holiday demonstrating this with us. We also worked on a variety of math problem solving strategies.
We love painting! In the photos below, students learned about Ted Harrison's art and his techniques. They then created their own paintings.
This week also worked well for creating snowy, city scenes, using pastels and sponge painting.
Brody is finishing his pastel drawing before adding the snowy details.
We have a busy month of learning ahead of us. We'll keep you updated with our blog!
