A Fun Lunch Before Spring Break!

Our school is fortunate to have a wonderful group of volunteers! Students were able to enjoy lunch together and the excitement was high!

Ryan and Zyron enjoy each other's company.

Ellise and Madison also enjoy sitting together.

Our class has been reviewing the WITS program and what it looks and sounds like when we use it. Students participated in a poster contest to demonstrate their understanding. Everyone received a special pencil prize for a job well done! We also read a story about a class having "Peace Week" and we decided to have one, too. The students agreed to solve any problems in a peaceful way, using words to keep the problem small and then solve it. We shared ways that we solved problems in a peaceful way, both at school and at home.

Everyone is excited about Spring Break! When we return, some of our Math learning will include using 2-D shapes and 3-D objects in a variety of fun activities. We"ll continue to learn about air and water in our environment, how important they are in our lives. This unit correlates well with the upcoming Earth Day. A special note - room 6 and room 18 will host the April assembly on the 24th at 9:15. Families are always welcome to attend.

Wishing all families a happy, safe Spring Break!

Science Fun!

In Science, Room 6 children have been learning about characteristics of objects and materials. Why are objects made from specific materials? Now, they get to design and build a bed for their stuffed animal! We've discussed criteria and they know what's expected to earn 3 Stars. It's amazing what we can do without hammers and nails!

Charlotte's bed is coming together!

Zyron and Izzy are aiming for 3-Stars and the Bonus!

It's Been An Exciting Week At Linwood!

Lots of fun things happened at Linwood the week of February 18-21. Room 6 celebrated 100 days of school with stories, 100 snacks, math estimation and writing about 100 wishes. We also celebrated our love of reading with an Olympic theme! We learned about the rings and the torch and listened to amazing guest readers. The week ended with our own Olympic Games! Below are a few photos of the day.

These yogurt parfaits are yummy!

We Have to Survive Our Winter - What do the animals do?

We were lucky to have Kyle visit our classroom. Kyle works at The Living Prairie Museum. He knows a lot about what Manitoba animals do in winter and.he came to share his knowledge with us.

We learned that bears are called "super sleepers." They "torpor" which means that they sleep most of the winter but they might wake up a few times. Did you know that?

Kyle taught us that many animals adapt to our winters just like we do!

Here is Ryan with a set of bison horns! Both females and males have horns and carry them their whole lives. Ask me what's different about animals that have antlers.

Students love to use our new iPads!

We are having fun learning with our class set of iPads! Playing math games helps us practice our adding and subtracting. We are using them in Daily 5, too. Mrs. Chumola is impressed with how well the class is sharing them.

This is Eirrah and Heather using them to create Art!

Frances is spelling lots of words!

Is it odd or even?

Students are having fun learning about odd and even numbers! Ask your child to tell you if a number is odd or even. Any number! You will be amazed!
Here are a few children playing a math game to practise their learning.
